It’s time for another Top Ten! This week’s topic is Top Ten All Time Favourite Movies!

Dead Poets Society
“Oh Captain, My Captain.” Dead Poets Society is a compelling story about the importance of education, boys learning to become men, and carpe diem. Knox Overstreet doesn’t hurt either.

Sixteen Candles
As a bright and somewhat naive fourteen year old, I fell in love with Jake Ryan and Samantha Baker. Her sarcasm was refreshing and I really liked his preppy style. Although it’s not my favourite film anymore because of its blatant issues, I loved it for so long I had to feature it here.

Breakfast Club
“You see us as you want to see us—in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain…and an athlete…and a basket case…a princess…and a criminal. Does that answer your question?”

Children of a Lesser God
William Hurt plays a determined speech teacher at a deaf school. Marlee Matlin plays the school’s janitor who reluctantly becomes Hurt’s student.

Me Before You
I fell in love with the book, so I had to watch the film. Who doesn’t want to see Daenerys in a new light.

The Hunger Games
It takes “If it bleeds, it leads” a little too far, don’t you think?

Up Close and Personal
Robert Redford. Michelle Pfeiffer. Crazy pink skirt suit. Because You Loved Me.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
My best friend and I have seen this film so many times that we can probably quote it now.

Pretty Woman
The chemistry between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere is undeniable.

Room
One of the few adaptations that I loved just as much as the book.

  3. Great List! I love Pretty Woman so much, as you say the chemistry is undeniable and its still there in Runway Bride too. I adore them as a pair.
    I still need to watch Me Before You, the book gave me a book hangover for 3 days so i’ve been putting it off!

    • Thanks. Yes, I love watching the two movies together but I can’t decide which one I love more. Probably Runaway Bride because I’ve always leaned towards characters whose romance starts off with sarcasm. Me Before You, the book, had the same effect on me too. Tears were streaming down my face and then I went to the library and borrowed the second in the series the next day. But if you haven’t read After You, don’t. It kind of ruined Louisa for me. The Me Before You film is well-acted and really funny at times 🙂

      • I haven’t read After You yet, I bought it and it’s just sat on my bookshelf. I can’t bring myself to start it. My friend who doesn’t really read read After You without reading Me Before You which is really weird to me!

    • Hi Caitlin, most of my favourite films I watched when I was a teenager and my love for them has only grown. And yes, I’m relieved about Pretty Woman’s script changed. I can’t even imagine Pretty Woman as the original story.
